EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs more than 6,500 people supporting the three main missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. The EPFL campus offers an exceptional working environment at the heart of a community of more than 17,000 people, including over 12,500 students and 4,000 researchers from more than 120 different countries.
Given the huge impact construction has on global emissions, the construction sector is in urgent need of technological solutions that can be implemented quickly, broadly and scaled. To achieve this, EPFL has created the Centre for Worldwide Sustainable Construction (CWSC). The centre will focus its research on technologies that can be implemented to achieve strong impact on a global scale. The centre will offer world class education at the doctoral and Masters level, which will include developing capacity in the Global South where most new construction will occur. The centre will build on the already established world class reputable of EPFL in many construction related fields, notably cement based materials.
